Washington Butler is a Puyallup native who was awed by the arts from a young age. She was a singer in choirs, entered singing competitions and performed in schools and in community theatre. Following her move from Los Angeles, she studied theater at The University of Southern California and performed as Belle the princess in Beauty and the Beast at Disneyland for an year and a quarter. She dropped out of college and set her sights on getting an agent to represent her talents and then began casting for roles in TV as well as film. Butler guest starred in The TV show CSI: Miami. In 2008, she appeared as a character in Don Stark's web-series Luke 11-17. Butler was also a regular part in I Love Vampires, a web-based serial. Butler won the leading part in the 2010 rape revenge thriller I Spit on Your Grave. This remake is a remake from 1978 of the cult film of the same title. The film initially was a turn-off for her because of its nudity, violence as well as feminist undertones. But the compelling plot and the feminist aspect made her choose to take on the role. The film directed by Steven R. Monroe was released in October 2010. Butler started shooting The Stranger Within with Estella and William Baldwin, the psychological thriller in Mallorca, on November 11, 2011. This film would also be made at Copenhagen Denmark as well as New York City. In June 2012, she joined Michael Biehn in the Los Angeles filming of Treachery. Butler was a part of the 2013 terror film The Demented with Michael Welch and Kayla Ewell.
